Voyagers Take 2-1 Series Lead
Voyagers Win a Close Game Over Glacier
(Great Falls, Mt.) - In what I could only describe as an odd game, the Great Falls Voyagers (2-1) won a tightly contested game over the Glacier Range Riders (1-2). While both teams had some great moments, there were also plays that happened you do not often see, let alone all in the same game.
The Range Riders started the scoring off starting pitcher Collin Runge, yes THAT Collin Runge, in the first inning. The Range Riders were able to push one across in the first on two hits and then scored a second run in the second inning, on no hits. Contribute two stolen bases and a wild pitch for that second run.
The Voyagers were able to get a run in the 3rd inning as Jaylyn Williams started it off with a single to center. He was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nick Emanuel. Charley Hesse was able to bring Williams home on a hard-hit line drive to left field. Hesse was then doubled up as Jake Malec hit a scorching line drive to the second baseman for the Range Riders who threw behind Hesse for the double play.
The fourth inning saw the Voyagers do some serious damage as they started the inning off with a triple to left center off the bat of Riley Jepson. Ryan McCarthy drove Jepson home with a single to right. A fly ball to center was the first out by Christian Coipel but Cal Bocchino hit a double moving McCarthy to third. Christopher DeGuzman kept the double's coming as he hit one to left field to the fence, and in the process scoring McCarthy and Bocchino. DeGuzman was able to come home on a single to left by Hesse.
Leading 5-2 going to the top of the sixth inning as both teams were unable to score in the fifth, the Range Riders added one to make it 5-3. The 6th inning saw one hit by the Range Riders and two stolen bases and a sacrifice fly. The Voyagers were able to load the bases in the 6th inning with one out but were unable to get any insurance runs.
With the Voyagers leading going into the top of the 9th, who do you call other than Montana Quigley. Quigley was able to strike out the side notching his first save of the season and a win for Runge.
This game saw a bit of everything, from Jepson catching a fly ball in right field and throwing out a running leading off from second base to far, to the Range Riders pitcher tripping over the mound trying to catch a pop fly. If you want to see action and have an exciting time, Voyager Stadium is the place to be!! The Voyagers take on the Range Riders in game four of the six game series, Friday night at 7 p.m. Come out and get your Memorial Day Weekend started right!!
