Big 7th Inning Rockets Voyagers Past Paddleheads

After taking Game 2 against Missoula, the Voyagers looked to keep the winning going in Game 3. The game got off to a great start for the Voyagers when Jake Malec sent a pitch over the right field fence giving the Voyagers an early 1-0 lead in the 1st. Derek Kolbush, a new addition to the team, grounded into a double play scoring one run and putting the Voyagers up 2-0 in the 2nd. But Missoula fought back and scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to even up the score 2-2. Jepson in the top of the 4th sent a shot over the left field fence giving the Voyagers the lead once again. Nick Emanuel singled scoring McCabe and the Voyagers regained their 2 score advantage. 

Missoula would not go away and took advantage of their small ballpark and scored a run in the bottom of the 4th and 6th thanks to Jayson Newman solo home runs. This evened the score 4-4. The Voyagers were not discouraged and rallied around the offense and exploded for 6 runs in the top of the 7th inning. Andy Atwood and Riley Jepson both hit 2 RBI doubles and McCabe and Kolbush added RBI singles to center to make the score 10-4. In the top of the 8th Breydon Daniel scored on a wild pitch pushing the Voyagers lead to 7. The Voyagers would go on to win 11-6 after Missoula took advantage of their small outfield and hit another home run.

Great starting pitching by Alexander Castro helped keep the Missoula offense at bay so the offense could put up big numbers. Castro went 7 innings giving up 6 hits, 4 earned runs, no walks and 5 strikeouts. On the season Castro is 1-0 with 10 inning pitched, a 9.90 ERA, and 9 strikeouts. 

The Voyagers will look to secure at least a split in the series with a win tomorrow night in Game 4. The game will take place at Ogren Park at Allegiant Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
