The Voyagers' offense has been active in the early goings of series number three in the Pioneer League regular season, but it hasn?t been enough to come away with a victory through two games.
Great Falls started off the game last night with a bang. DH Livingston Morris hit a two-run blast to straight away center field in the top of the first. 3B Frank Podkul picked up where he left off with a solo homer in the second inning to put his team up 3-0. Podkul got two more RBI's in the third when he singled to make the lead 5-2. The team put up a 5-run 4th inning, RBI base hits from Gonzalez, Washington, and Backstrom set up Livingston Morris for his second home run of the game. It was another two-run shot to center field, as Morris tied for 2nd in home runs in the Pioneer League. This is also Livingston's second 2-HR game this season, as the power-hitter has been on a tear to start the year, and has been red hot these past few games. In the last 4 games, he has 5 HR and 12 RBI.
Missoula responded in the bottom of the 4th with a 5-run inning of their own, including a grand slam from Adam Fogel. It was more back and forth throughout the game, with three more lead changes. The Voyagers were up two in the bottom of the 8th inning when the Paddleheads opened the inning with 5 straight baserunners. They scored four runs, putting them back in the lead with just one inning to go. Andrew Garcia shut the door in the 9th for Missoula.
The Voyagers and the Paddleheads have combined for 60 runs through the first two games of the series. Pitchers on both sides have struggled to slow down the batters at all in this series. So far, Missoula has been able to squeeze just a little more production out of their offense than Great Falls has; final score of game one was 18-12; final score of the second game was 16-14.
